Nashville has become one of the fastest-growing construction markets in the Southeast over the last 20 years. As the skyline grows and our city transforms, Charter Construction has had the privilege of working alongside general contractors who are leading the way in delivering some of the most complex, challenging, and rewarding projects in Middle Tennessee. One of those contractors is Hoar Construction.

From mixed-use towers in the Gulch to high-rise developments that shape the future of our city, Hoar and Charter have built a lasting partnership rooted in trust, shared values, and a commitment to excellence.

Concrete Confidence: Excellence from Preplanning to Execution

The partnership between Hoar Construction and Charter began in 2010 as Hoar was expanding its footprint into Middle Tennessee. At the time, more projects in the area were being designed with post-tensioned concrete frames, requiring a partner with deep technical expertise and a strong local reputation.

“We sought partnership with Charter to help us compete for this work and complete these projects on time and on budget,” said Jason Bennett, Region President at Hoar Construction. “Their reputation, honesty, and the expertise of Turner and Richard set them apart in the Nashville market.”

That early collaboration laid the foundation for more than a decade of work together, ranging from slab-on-grade and hardscapes to full concrete frame jobs like Broadwest, a 33-story high-rise with seven levels of below-grade parking, and Capitol View in the Gulch.

Through each project, Charter’s strengths in preconstruction planning, design assist, and schedule execution made them a reliable and indispensable partner.

“Charter is integral to the design assist process,” Bennett said. “They are experts at preplanning and navigating pricing increases and labor shortages. Once the project is underway, their quality of work and commitment to meeting the schedule are second to none.”

That reputation for reliability is more than just words. According to Bennett, Charter’s commitment to delivering on time is unwavering.

“Charter doesn’t miss a schedule,” he added. “If the end date is in question, they are proactive and take steps to make up lost time.”

More Than a Subcontractor: Charter’s Role as a Strategic Partner

When it comes to collaboration and innovation, Hoar knows they can count on Charter to bring more than manpower to the jobsite—they bring strategy and leadership.

“The team at Charter brings solutions to the table,” Bennett said. “They offer input on slab thicknesses and slab fold design, beam and column sizing, foundation sizing and supplementary reinforcing, shear wall design, mild steel reinforcing and PT cable input, blast depths, pour sequencing, and coordinating the site/structure interface.”

This level of involvement begins long before a shovel hits the ground. Charter often assists Hoar in reviewing schematic designs, identifying potential efficiencies in structural elements like closure slabs and lean fill assumptions, and even helping to reduce the need for deep foundations.

Charter’s approach is about delivering value at every step. Whether it’s mitigating urban noise, troubleshooting site challenges, or maximizing speed-to-market, Charter consistently shows up with a proactive, ownership mentality that helps projects stay on track and on schedule.

“Their field staff and superintendents are great communicators,” Bennett shared. “They assist in the coordination of other trades and ensure their schedule keeps pace with the demands of the project.”

People First: The Foundation of a Strong, Lasting Partnership

At the end of the day, the relationship between Hoar and Charter is a testament to the power of trust, professionalism, and shared success. And what sets Charter apart? According to Bennet, it’s the people.

“From top to bottom, Charter’s employees bring professionalism and a partnership mentality to every interaction on the job, often starting years before the project ever breaks ground,” he said.

That long-term thinking and consistency are why Hoar will continue to partner with Charter in the future.

“You cannot build in Nashville without Charter. Their success has directly led to our success,” Bennett added.

Charter is grateful for the opportunity to work alongside general contractors like Hoar who share a passion for excellence and our commitment to building what matters. Their projects shape the Nashville skyline and support the city’s growth. It’s a privilege to contribute to projects that will make a lasting impact for years to come.
