In a company like Charter, growth doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built through intention, collaboration, and people who are willing to lead with both vision and humility. Few people embody that mindset more than Repair Specialist Hank Arnold, the driving force behind Charter’s concrete restoration and repair work.

Since stepping into a newly created role just over a year ago, Hank has helped shape what has quickly become a vital service area for Charter and a major value-add for our clients. But if you ask him, he’ll tell you that his path into this role, and into the industry itself, wasn’t something he planned.

Restoring historic homes showed me that construction is just as much about solving problems and collaborating with others as it is about building from a set of plans.

Repair Specialist, Charter Construction

Before joining Charter, Hank was earning his bachelor’s degree online through Lipscomb University while working as a carpenter restoring historic homes in East Nashville. That hands-on experience gave him a deeper respect for construction as a career built on skill, creativity, and teamwork—the same values that now guide his work at Charter.

Finding a Fit That Just Felt Right

Hank had heard about Charter long before he applied. A close family friend and mentor, also a longtime friend of Charter’s CEO Turner Talley, frequently spoke highly of the company and the people behind it. But when Hank first asked the mentor to pass along his resume, the answer was no.

“He told me I wasn’t ready,” Hank recalls. “A few years later, after gaining more experience, and more importantly, a stronger work ethic, he felt the time was right.”

That led to an interview that confirmed what Hank had suspected: Charter was different. And he knew almost immediately that this was the kind of team he wanted to join.

Building Something New: Charter’s Repair Division

Though repair and restoration work had long been a part of Charter’s project mix, it had historically been treated as a “gap filler” between major projects. That changed in 2023, when Charter leadership made a strategic decision to give repair services the structure, focus, and leadership they needed to grow.

At the time, Hank was working in the field on Charter’s Link Tower project when he received a call from President Richard Wilson asking him to come into the office.

What followed was a conversation that would reshape his career. Richard shared a vision to expand Charter’s service offerings and pursue structural repair and restoration work with greater focus—and he asked Hank to lead the effort.

“I was struck by his willingness to expand and innovate,” Hank said. “I continue to feel truly honored that leadership trusted me with such a key role.”

An Innovative Mindset

In his role as a repair specialist, Hank’s days are dynamic and full of variety, just the way he likes them. He might be managing one of several ongoing repair projects, assessing concrete damage for a client, developing new proposals, or meeting with potential partners to explore future work. He also keeps an eye on ways to improve efficiency and stay ahead of the competition.

“This opportunity has allowed me to apply strengths that might otherwise go untapped, such as building relationships with potential clients and thinking creatively to grow a new branch of the business,” he said. “These are the aspects of the work that genuinely energize me.”

His energy and focus are already paying off. From large-scale structural repair to careful restoration of historic buildings, Hank has led projects that reflect Charter’s capacity and attention to detail.

“Each one represents a unique challenge and a meaningful opportunity,” he said.

When he reflects on the scope of his work at Charter, two particular projects stand out as highlights. The Vanderbilt University Hospital east garage project, which he describes as humbling due to its scale, and the Sewanee University repair.

“Playing a role in restoring a building on such a beautiful, historic campus was a special experience—one that required a great deal of care to preserve the architectural integrity of the structure.”

Leading with Confidence and Leaving a Legacy

When Hank talks about Charter’s Repair Division, it’s not just about the work. It’s about where we’re going and the reputation we’re building in the process.

“We’re not just here to fix what’s broken. We’re here to lead,” he said. “We don’t shy away from complexity; we welcome it. We approach every challenge with confidence and a solution-driven mindset.”

His passion for leadership is matched by the impact Charter has had on his personal and professional growth.

“I’ve learned what it takes to be an effective leader in a fast-paced, high-pressure industry,” Hank said. “By observing and emulating the example set by our leadership team, I’ve been able to build strong, productive relationships with teammates, clients, and partners.”

It’s those relationships—and the people behind them—that Hank values most.

“I now work alongside people I can truly rely on—people I trust and respect. And to me, that kind of support system is one of the most valuable things you can have.”

Why Hank Stays—and What He’d Tell Others

When asked what he’d tell someone considering a job at Charter, Hank doesn’t hesitate.

“Charter is a place where you’re genuinely supported, respected, and heard. It’s a company that empowers you to take ownership of your work and encourages growth through real responsibilities,” he said. “The work is meaningful, and the effort you put in doesn’t go unnoticed.”

And just like the repair projects he leads, Hank knows the work he’s doing today will make an impact that lasts.

This is about more than repair—it’s about innovation, growth, and leaving a lasting impact. And we’re just getting started.
