Structural integrity is a foundational element in concrete construction—the strength that keeps a building standing for decades. At Charter Construction, we believe that same principle applies to our people. Our goal has always been to build a culture where talent is identified, invested in, and given the room to grow.
Jonathan Rizkallah is a great example of that. What started as an opportunity to learn the business has turned into a leadership role where he’s now helping shape the next generation of project managers at Charter.
More Than a Seat to Fill
Jonathan joined Charter as an Assistant Project Manager after being introduced to the company through industry connections. From the beginning, what stood out to him wasn’t just the work, but the way the company approached people.
“Charter didn’t just need someone to fill a seat—they were willing to invest in people,” Jonathan said.
He was paired early on with Drew Hauser, one of Charter’s Project Managers, and the two began working closely together. That relationship became foundational to Jonathan’s growth inside the company.
“He’s been a great mentor and resource for me over the years,” Jonathan shared. “We work well together, communicate openly, and have built a strong working relationship that’s helped both of us succeed on our projects.”
Taking on Bigger Challenges and Greater Responsibilities
As an Assistant PM, Jonathan was involved in everything from estimating and scheduling to submittals, coordination, and field support. Over time, he began taking on more responsibility and managing larger scopes of work. The transition to Project Manager, and eventually Senior Project Manager, came naturally as he built confidence and credibility with both Charter’s teams and general contractor partners.
Jonathan points to a few key projects that helped shape him professionally. Each one brought different challenges and lessons, whether it was managing complex logistics, coordinating multiple trades, or navigating tight schedules.
What Jonathan enjoys most about his role now is the balance between technical execution and people leadership. As a Senior PM, his days are spent guiding projects from early planning through closeout, staying ahead of issues, and supporting his teams in the field. But a big part of his role today is also mentoring younger team members.
“Watching Assistant PMs that I helped train grow into confident PMs is one of the most rewarding parts of my job,” Jonathan said. “You start to see them handle situations that used to feel overwhelming. That’s a good feeling.”
Built to Grow People
That commitment to developing people reflects Charter’s broader culture. The company is known for promoting from within and creating space for employees to grow into leadership roles. Jonathan has experienced that firsthand.
“Charter doesn’t just hire talent—they build it,” he said. “They promote from within, trust their people, and let them lead. It’s not a place where you stay stuck in one box.”
Jonathan also credits the open, collaborative environment at Charter for his growth. Leaders make themselves available. Ideas are welcomed. Mistakes become learning moments instead of blame games.
“There’s a real sense that we’re all on the same team,” he said. “If you have a question or a concern, people want to help you solve it. “Leadership is always accessible. You can actually talk to decision-makers and be heard.”
As Jonathan looks ahead, he’s focused on continuing to grow as a leader and helping Charter’s teams succeed across every phase of construction. He’s proud of how far he’s come, but even more proud of the people he’s helped along the way.
At Charter, Jonathan’s story is a familiar one. It’s what happens when a company invests in people, gives them room to grow, and trusts them with responsibility. And it’s exactly the kind of culture that continues to shape Charter’s future, one career at a time.
