Matthew Kirts charter employee

Published on: January 21, 2026

Charter Construction has always been about working alongside good people—people who are committed to doing excellent work while caring for the well-being of those around them. Those are the exact words that describe Matt Kirts.

When Matt joined Charter, he didn’t come in with decades of concrete experience or a clear roadmap of where his career would take him. What he did bring was a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and the kind of curiosity that fuels long-term growth.

Today, he serves as a senior project manager, leading complex projects across Nashville while reflecting the collaborative, team-first culture that makes Charter unique.

Building a Career and a Life with Charter

Before his time at Charter, Matt used his background in mechanical engineering and manufacturing to work across the U.S. and Canada on wind and solar farms. When his family settled in Nashville, he was ready for an opportunity that would allow him to be home every night instead of once a month.

What he found was much more than a job.

“I didn’t know much about Charter when I interviewed,” Matt recalled. “But I knew right away it was the right fit. Everyone was welcoming, and I immediately felt like I had something in common with the team.”

Matt started as a project manager in 2018 and began training under experienced leaders.

“I worked on the Fifth + Broadway project. My supervisor would give me smaller portions of the job to manage. It was hands-on training, in the office and in the field. That first project was a big one to cut my teeth on, but I learned quickly.”

Within a year, Matt was managing his own projects. Over time, those projects grew in scope and complexity until, in 2023, he was promoted to senior project manager.

“Charter took a chance on me, and I would never have become an experienced project manager in this industry without that opportunity. They put the time and energy into training me, and it gave me the chance to build a career while also building a life with my family here in Nashville,” Matt shared.

Collaboration and Company Softball

For Matt, two projects stand out as particularly memorable.

The first was GEODIS Park, Nashville’s MLS stadium. “It was a challenging project, but a fun one. I’m proud to be able to say I was part of it.”

The second was a series of renovations at Vanderbilt Medical Center. That work was so different from the new construction projects we typically do, and I really enjoyed the variety it brought.”

When asked what makes the culture at Charter unique, Matt didn’t hesitate:

“At Charter, you never feel like you’re on an island. You can always ask questions, and people also come to you for advice. It makes the work collaborative, less stressful, and honestly more fun.”

That culture goes beyond project work. Matt recalls the little traditions that create a family atmosphere in the office. “When the company was smaller, we always celebrated birthdays with cake. That tradition has continued. It’s a small thing, but it shows the effort to keep that sense of family.”

And of course, there’s the company softball team, which Matt jokingly names as one of his most rewarding Charter memories. “Finally getting our first win was a big deal for us,” he said with a grin.

Fresh Challenges, Lasting Lessons

For Matt, what sets Charter apart isn’t just the culture in the office; it’s also the quality of the work in the field.

“Charter’s field staff is the best in the Nashville market. The quality of their work and the speed at which they can do it is unmatched. Their teamwork with us in the office makes all the difference.”

When reflecting on what he loves most about his role today, Matt comes back to the variety.

“There’s always something new to learn and do. I’m rarely working on the same task day after day, and I get to split my time between the office and the field. That freshness is what keeps me energized.”

From his early days learning alongside mentors to his leadership today, Matt’s journey is a reflection of Charter’s commitment to developing people, fostering teamwork, and creating opportunities for growth. And if you ask him, that’s what makes Charter a place to build a career worth celebrating.
