Charter’s Restoration & Repair team recently completed a full repair and restoration of 15 balcony slabs at Trezevant Hall on Sewanee University’s campus. The project included full-depth, soffit, and top slab repairs to address significant deterioration caused by water infiltration at handrail anchorage points and corroded angle irons supporting connecting slabs.
What made this project unique was the campus’s historic architecture. Sewanee’s buildings are inspired by Cambridge University, and many of the structures feature beautiful masonry and stonework. Every step of the repair process required intentional craftsmanship to protect these architectural details while restoring the structural performance of the balconies. The team carefully navigated demolition and installation processes to avoid any damage to the surrounding stonework.
This project highlights the collaborative approach of our R&R division, our subcontractors, and our field team to deliver solutions that extend the life of campus structures while respecting their historic character.
