Every successful project begins long before the first yard of concrete is poured: it all starts with trust.

For nearly two decades, Clark Construction has helped shape some of Nashville’s most recognizable projects. From Music City Center to Nashville Yards, the company has earned a reputation for tackling complex, large-scale work while building strong relationships with partners who help bring those projects to life.

Charter Construction is proud to be one of those partners.

Tim Lamson, Senior Vice President for Clark Construction, has spent over 20 years with the company, including the last eight years leading work in Nashville. During that time, he’s worked alongside Charter on several projects, including the Pinnacle Office Tower at Nashville Yards—a project that demanded careful planning, close coordination, and a high level of trust from everyone involved.

We had the chance to sit down with Tim, along with several team members at Charter, to reflect on some of the most meaningful projects and discuss what makes the partnership so strong.

Building One of Nashville’s Biggest Projects with a Strong Foundation

At more than one million square feet of concrete work, the Pinnacle Office Tower and Parking Garage represents one of the largest and most technically demanding projects in Charter’s history. The job included crews approaching 190 people at peak construction and introduced some of the most advanced concrete mixes ever used on a Nashville high-rise, including 15,000 and 16,000 PSI concrete designed to reduce carbon emissions while delivering exceptional structural performance.

Projects of that scale don’t happen by accident.

“Charter provides a high quality of support and planning during preconstruction, which is critical,” Tim says. “They approached the project with a mindset of not overcommitting to capabilities and a commitment to over-deliver.”

Similarly, Clark Construction has a reputation for setting the standard for how a project should start, which establishes a strong foundation before construction even begins.

“From day one, their schedule, scope, and pricing were dialed in with a level of polish you don’t often see — there’s no ambiguity, no scrambling to fill gaps later,” highlighted Josh Crowell, Vice President at Charter. “Every project feels set up for success before the first shovel hits the ground.”

Quality Starts with Coordination

As construction moved forward, the partnership continued to grow through communication, planning, and a shared commitment to doing things the right way.

“Working with Clark Construction is always a great experience for our team at Charter,” Richard Wilson, President of Charter Construction, shared. “They create an environment where everyone is working toward the same goal and hold everyone to a high standard, including themselves. That’s something I have a lot of respect for.”

That collaboration matters on a project where dozens of trade partners are working simultaneously, and every milestone depends on careful sequencing.

“In our experience, the people who lead their projects are fantastic at planning the work and coordinating with us and the other trades on the job site,” Tim says. “They communicate well, do what they say they’re going to do, and they’re collaborative by nature.”

For Charter, that sense of respect is shared and reciprocated. Clark’s structured approach, attention to detail, and commitment to organization create an environment where every trade partner has the opportunity to succeed.

“Pinnacle Tower was a complex project with an aggressive schedule,” shared Alex Nance, Senior Project Manager at Charter. “Clark’s ability to implement their processes and operating procedures kept all trades coordinated and working together, which undoubtedly played a huge part in the success of the project for everyone involved.”

Good People Build Great Projects

When you ask Tim what stands out most about working with Charter, his answer is about much more than concrete.

“Every construction project has issues. But when you enter into an agreement with Charter, there’s a clear understanding that everyone involved should be treated fairly.”

That foundation of fairness has helped both teams navigate complex work while maintaining a focus on quality, schedule, and long-term relationships.

“When I work with Charter, I’m confident we’re working in a relationship of mutual respect and fairness, along with a high standard of work that makes me confident in a successful outcome for everyone.”

From Charter’s perspective, that respect is exactly what has made Clark such a strong partner. Their team brings a high level of organization, professionalism, and communication to every project. Everyone understands the plan, works toward the same goal, and stays focused on finding solutions together.

Drew Hauser, Director of Project Management at Charter, summed up the relationship this way: “Clark has high expectations of their trade partners, which we really appreciate. It helps us learn and get better, and ultimately leads to successful outcomes.”

It’s a simple philosophy, but one that continues to shape some of Nashville’s biggest projects. When good people come together with a shared commitment to excellence, the results speak for themselves.

Charter’s President Richard Wilson summed it up by sharing, “At the end of the day, construction is a people business, and Clark has some of the best.  We’re proud of our relationship with Clark and look forward to many more successful projects together.”
