At Charter Construction, we know that growth stems from a willingness to learn, a strong work ethic, and a genuine desire to do right by the people around you. Assistant Project Manager Michael Gilbert is one of the many team members who exemplifies that every single day.

Finding the Right Fit

Michael joined Charter in 2022 as part of the Safety Department, and it didn’t take long for him to notice something different. After years of working in environments where he felt like “just a number,” he quickly learned that teammates at Charter are respected, empowered, and trusted from day one.

In 2024, Michael transitioned into his current Assistant Project Manager position. For him, the change wasn’t simply a new title; it was a meaningful step toward work that aligned with his strengths and long-term ambitions. “Charter allows you to evolve. If there’s something you want to do, and there’s a business need for it, they’ll support you.”

Michael reports directly to Andrew Lee, whose guidance has been invaluable. But he’s quick to note that his development at Charter hasn’t been limited to a single mentor. “The entire PM department works collaboratively. I can go to anyone with a question, and they’re willing to help.”

He also points to the team’s high standards and character as reasons the company stands out.

“Charter is full of intelligent and professional people who always try to do right by their customers and deliver a high-quality product,” he says.

Variety + Challenge = Growth

What Michael enjoys most about his work is that no two days look the same. “Job sites are always changing. Challenges arise constantly, which force me to think critically and problem-solve efficiently,” he explains.

Several specific projects have shaped Michael’s journey at Charter. His experience on the Vanderbilt RCC project provided his first full look at field operations. Later, stepping into the St. Jude Memphis project was a defining milestone, allowing him to take on new responsibilities and stretch his capabilities. Each assignment has played a key role in building his confidence and expertise.

Thinking About Joining Charter?

Michael’s path from Safety Coordinator to Assistant Project Manager is one of many examples of what makes Charter special: a culture that backs its people, encourages advancement, and creates space for individuals to build meaningful careers.

“If you’re looking for a company full of good, honest people who treat you with respect and dignity, and give you room to grow personally and professionally, look no further than Charter Construction.”
