Brent Roberts, Charter Construction employee

Brent Roberts is no stranger to the world of construction. Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, Brent’s passion for construction led him to Auburn University, where he earned his degree in building science in 2003. From there, he embarked on a career as a general contractor, working on projects that have made a real impact across Nashville.

In 2023, Brent made the move to Charter Construction, joining the team as a project manager. His years of experience, paired with his love for problem-solving, have made him a perfect fit.

From General Contractor to Charter Project Manager

Over the years, Brent worked with dozens of subcontractors in his role as a general contractor. However, there was something different about Charter Construction that stood out to him. It wasn’t just the high-quality work Charter delivered. It was also the professionalism and ownership mentality that the team consistently brought to every project.

“The team members at Charter struck me as people who took the job seriously and approached it as professionals,” Brent shares. “They cared about doing the job well, not just taking a project to get some money.”

When the opportunity arose for Brent to join Charter in 2023, he saw it as the perfect alignment of his experience and the company’s values. He was drawn to Charter’s collaborative culture and its dedication to doing the job right. In his new role, Brent could combine his extensive background in construction management with Charter’s commitment to excellence.

After joining Charter, Brent has hit the ground running as the project manager for several high-profile projects. His first major assignment was overseeing the Westerly House Complex, a five-story building with a two-story podium parking structure in Nashville’s burgeoning Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood.

Another standout project for Brent has been the Ashwood, a 116,500-square-foot mixed-use development that will include retail, dining, and office spaces. Set to open in late 2024, this three-story, LEED-certified building required constant problem-solving and planning adjustments.

“This was a project that stood out to me because it required us to continually rethink our plan to find the quickest and best way to move forward,” Brent says. His ability to embrace challenges head-on has been a key factor in the success of these complex projects.

For Brent, every project tells a story. “After a job is done, I enjoy looking back and seeing how each project tells a story—the history, the challenges we faced, and how it came to be,” he reflects.

The Charter Difference: Collaboration and Growth

Brent’s love for problem-solving is one of the many reasons he has found a home at Charter. The company’s collaborative culture, where team members are encouraged to share ideas and work together, has made a significant difference in his experience.

“We meet regularly as project managers, and we’re constantly collaborating around issues,” Brent explains. “If we’re not solving problems in real-time, we’re having general discussions about future challenges and how we can continually improve our processes over time.”

This spirit of collaboration isn’t just part of the day-to-day work at Charter—it’s woven into the very DNA of the company. Brent has found that the team’s collective commitment to doing better every day has made his experience as a project manager even more rewarding. He appreciates how Charter emphasizes growth, not only in terms of the projects they take on but also in terms of personal and professional development.

Brent himself is a key contributor to Charter’s mission of continual improvement. By sharing his knowledge and learning from others, he helps ensure that the company’s project management processes remain cutting-edge. The ability to exchange ideas and problem-solve with his peers has become one of the most fulfilling aspects of his role.

“Charter is definitely a place where you can improve yourself,” Brent says. “Anyone that joins our team is going to grow and improve.”

For Brent Roberts, Charter Construction is more than just a job—it’s a place where he can bring his expertise, solve meaningful challenges, and grow alongside a team that values collaboration, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence.
